i hate SM so much, i still feel so bad for jessica and i'm glad she can at least expose SM in her book in a non-direct way. her being barred from music shows is like deja vu for me cuz i was a JYJ fan, JYJ fought against their slave contracts and the 7 yr contract law was passed bc of their struggle, but then they were banned from promoting in korea because of SM being shady. and like jessica's book says, i definitely believe that SM forces their idols to sign under-the-table contracts to get around the 7 yr law. even tho YG is objectively the worst company, SM actively sabotages former employees' careers and are conniving as fuck

Hello Angelina, I am a big fan of SNSD, but unlike most sones I was not looking forward to the publication of Shine, and have no intention of reading it. I actually wrote a piece about this on my facebook page on March 22/2020. It is not because I am a Jessica hater, not at all. But to me I could see nothing good that would come from writing such a book. The book is already causing quite a stir in Korea. It will no doubt create an even bigger divide amongst Jessica fans vs OT8. The whole Jessica/GG/SM debacle is already SIX years in the past. I would have rather that Jessica be a bit more prudent and 'let sleeping dogs lie.' But obviously, I can't speak for Jessica. I just discovered your YT page today while looking for unbiased reviews of Shine. I agree with what you said in your review. I tend to avoid 'fan' sites because the comments usually just end up in a bickering match between golden stars and sones. I am glad I found your page, and naturally I have now subscribed. the things you said about jessica and her book were SOOO right. you out into words thoughts i have been having for weeks. she deserves to tell her story, let her tell her story! jessica and tiffany were my first biases, even before i knew what a bias was. and when she was forced to leave i was so heartbroken, even if i had been out of the loop of kpop for a couple years by then. i couldnt understand what was going. no matter how many articles i read, how many videos i watched describing what happened before and after, i just couldn't understand why she had to leave. no real explanation was given, and then we got toe see the rest of snsd perform looking so incredibly heartbroken.it was heart wrenching. sm has told their story for years while jessica was silenced. and while i don't think everything in the book will be accurate, and most likely it will be interwoven with fiction, it's time she gets to tell her side of things. it's only fair for her. if you don't for what she has to say you don't have to buy or read the book, but don't continue to to silence her.

for those wondering, Shine by Jessica Jung is NOT nonfiction. it is not a tell-all about her time in the Kpop industry. it is a YA fiction/romance book in which all events and characters are fictional. I work at a bookstore and have already received and read a copy of Shine as an ARC (advanced reader copy), and I can tell you that while some events that take place in the book may reflect Jessica's experience in the industry, the book is not some sort of explosive autobiography that exposes SM. there's no mention of SM, SNSD, or any real Kpop idols or companies.

Jessica is just...exhausting. As far as I have always looked at things, I don't believe what either side told us about her departure. I think that IF Jessica WAS telling the truth and eight people who are not a hive mind all agreed that you had to go, then there had to be more going on that we know that really paints her in a bad light. However, I also don't trust SM as far as I can throw them (the execs or the building, take your pick). So with that in mind, from that point, I'd decided to support both sides knowing that I don't know (and likely never will know), what happened. But having read that 90 page extract...she's not even trying to be fair, it's very much just a hit piece. And while I have loved her for nearly a decade (I became an SNSD fan in early 2012), she really not making it easy to support her unless you've already 'picked a side'. And honestly, as a second gen veteran at this stage, I'm not looking for drama. If she keeps pressing the issue, I will have to stop following her and buying the albums and whatnot.

I wasn't gonna comment initially, but after thinking about it I have to. I'm neutral on Jessica. I got into SNSD after she was gone and haven't kept up with her. That being said, she does not deserve hate for exposing SM. First of all how can you simp for a company who could careless about you? You're nothing but a number to them so why are you protecting them? Especially SM who is notorious for not protecting or seeming to care about their idols. Remember when Wendy fell and was seriously injured due to a music show's negligence? SM acted as if they didn't seem to really care and it took fan outrage to even get responses. Some things are really disgusting, even Selena Gomez recently called out Mark Zuckerberg because Instagram and Facebook are used to spread hate, racism and misinformation by asking him to shut down these groups and users focused on spreading hate speech, violence and misinformation! So it got very serious, they have to intervene!

I was sad when Jessica left. Regardless of what happened they where together for 7 years as kids. They where family,how can you give up on family because a disagreement. Dark sides of kpop being exposed are still a taboo tho. Fans who recently got into kpop world doesnt realise the dark sides of the industry, but as for those who had been a kpop fan since the first and 2nd generation this isnt a new thing. As a someone who knew how the industry work, i must say, don't be a toxic fans. Toxicity only bring demand to the entertainment company to push their artist to an extend where it is way to extreme for the artist. The agency doesnt really much care abt artist, they just want profit. Demanding fans mean more money but cost too much sacrifices for the artist.

I've read book club reviews online from N. American editors/sellers who got prerelease copies six months ago; the "antagonist" more-or-less [more of a rival] in Shine is a fellow trainee-to-be-bandmate named Mina. She's basically a generic, bossy bitch-type character incapable of character or personality development for the better. I havent looked TOO far into it, but perhaps this is one of the "real-life" experiences in the book. I'm thinking of who it could be and I think the only girls with enough of a polarizing personality from SNSD to be Mina are Sooyoung, Tiffany or Taeyeon 🤔🤔🤔

Sica waited for Krystal's contract to end prior to saying anything further on the matter. Even if it's not ultimately the "expose" that its getting hyped up to be, this'll likely be the closest thing to what we hear Sica will say in her own words about SNSD/SM.
