Hi, welcome to my totally legit kpop news show! My name is Angelina and today is our fun little time on Sundays where we discuss the Kpop news from the week, maybe talk some shit, all that jazz. As a super legit Kpop journalist and host, today we’re going to talk about CL’s comeback, Day6’s Jae Twitter backlash, Some members of Ateez becoming actors and Yunho’s role under scrutiny by fans and BTS RM’s speech backlash as well as an update from the Ukrainian singer who was accused of plagiarizing Agust D’s “Daechwita”! I honestly think that email was a fake big hit wouldn't do that they wouldn't bring up all the unnecessary crap.... First of all, if you are willing to unstan Ateez over this you should reevaluate whether your relationship with them is healthy and you should probably get a reality check. Its a goddamn drama its fictional. And the situation with Jae, I think people are really reaching here. It was clearly a misunderstanding. Jae couldve handled it a bit better, but honestly he did nothing wrong in my opinion. I myself am neurodivergent and sometimes do not understand sarcasm or social cues and I saw nothing wrong with his post. It was not directed at neurodivergent folks. People also need to check o themselves wether they might get triggered a bit too easy. Especially if its a Twitter post. Trust me you will live a better life if you dont get offended over every minor thing. Save it for the important stuff.

I think jae directed the sarcasm thing mostly towards cancel culture because people always want to take things personal and that's exactly what happens with that exact same tweet and probably is one of the reasons why he didn't apologise immediately and got a bit angry I guess. Jae was literally asking a question in the second tweet like god damn. He has ADHD and social anxiety. For people who are asking for sympathy and empathy, some of them sure do lack those basic skills themselves, if it isn't the pot calling the kettle black. He also never refused to explain, but all the people trying to force him to apologize and throwing hate at him were burying all the comments actually asking him for clarification.

As an autistic person myself I do find it ableist when someone won’t explain their sarcasm to me as I often don’t understand it. I do better when there’s tone change but not everyone changes their tone and when it’s in a text format it’s a lot harder to understand. I know many people might go so what you should learn sarcasm but I think that’s a harsh assumption and that itself is ableist. I’m glad Jae apologized and I don’t think he meant to offend anyone he just wasn’t aware about how his words could hurt certain people. I think in this case this helps shed light on how ableist our society is and how we need to teach more people about neurodiversity.

As a neurodivergent person, I've seen more ableism and willful ignorance about neurodiversity in people criticizing him than anything he did originally. Jae *is* neurodivergent himself, and while neurodivergence does not simply excuse poor behavior, it absolutely *does* create a very different context. People were saying all sorts of stuff like "I've never liked how emotional he is" and "he seems so impulsive, it's so annoying" and "he's old enough to know better" and "He said he doesn't know about neurodivergence but he has ADHD, he's lying". How you gonna be ableist and ignorant in your critique of ableism and ignorance, make it make sense. And it irritates me that all these neurotypical people are talking over us with all this anger for Jae "on our behalf" but I know from experience that they'll close twitter and just go right back to not caring or thinking about ND people whatsoever. Like where's this energy for actually IMPORTANT neurodiversity issues, not just when people are excited to cancel a celebrity. I'm usually SUPER skeptical of celeb apologies but I watched the apology he made on insta live and it actually felt very genuinely sincere. He demonstrated that he had realized exactly what he had done wrong, wasn't wishy-washy about it, and already demonstrated steps he'd taken to improve. Which is more than I can say for most people.

Although I will say I might be biased to forgive him quicker because he's been really blatantly outspoken about supporting so many things like mental health, LGBTQ, etc. More than almost any other idol I've experienced, which is saying a lot as I've been into kpop for 12 years. I'm from Minneapolis so it meant a lot to me when he right away donated like $1000 to the minnesota freedom fund after Floyd was killed (which specifically bails people out of jail after being arrested for protesting, which was a pretty ballsy donation for a kpop idol to publicly make). I know that good actions do not negate bad actions, but his track record might be influencing my decision.

3:29 Ableism is very much an accepted thing in today’s society so I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of those people that are bashing him have also said/done ableist things without even realising it. When I say accepted, I don’t mean it’s a good thing, I mean that people treat it like it’s normal through the use of the r slur, bullying disabled people and looking down on them as if they are “less than”. I have fibromyalgia so I have a disability myself and you’d be surprised as to just how much ableism I’ve experienced. Its actually rare to find someone who truly understands and respects those with chronic illnesses except for those who have a chronic illness themselves. It really is something common in today’s world. Racism and sexism is talked about all of the time but the issue of ableism is overlooked hence why people are uneducated.

To me the Jae drama doesn’t rly make sense in terms of him being “ableist”. He didn’t specifically aim it at people who can’t understand sarcasm due to fair reasons. It was probably intended to be towards people who have no reason not to understand or those who know it’s sarcasm and complain anyways. If he said “I wish people would listen to me”, would that be aimed at deaf people? Absolutely not; it’d be towards people in general that have no reason not to listen. Do you get what I mean? I feel like it was really taken too far because NOTHING about that was “ableist”. He was kinda rude tho. i'm autistic and sarcasm is something thats really hard for me to understand, and it really upset me how Jae chose to deal with the situation. Call me sensitive but it did really make me feel invalidated as a neurodivergent individual who cannot choose the way my brain works. I love Jae a lot but idk, this just really hit too close to home for me, I sincerely hope he has done enough research to not make the same mistake again and I hope his apology wasn't just performatism to keep his audience happy. It's okay to make mistakes, as long as you educate yourself as much as you can on why what you said or did was wrong, and that you try your best to not make the same mistakes in the future.

Being sympathetic, is seen as clout. Collaboration is seen as clout. Yeri sympathise to the death of Jonghyun, but found her a clout? People don't want to tire them, but they also want billions of comebacks, nonstop. They made collaboration from another artist who accepted them, but people aren't satisfied because it's not what they want. They did sarcasm, found out the fact. They did honestly and straightforward, found out as a lie. People be like, "Why are you acting like robots?" "Blame the company!!" "Mistreatment!!" People want them to be free, but they also want them to be perfect?

People have threatened him because that's just crazy. Some people are getting so worked up about a scene and story from the webtoon that might not even be in the drama. What about the fans that are going to start that crazy shipping between the Male and female idols that will be acting in this drama. Shipping can be taken way to seriously. I can't wait for this drama and all the idols that will be in it. Let just hope the jealous delusions and crazy shippers stay away.

I don't know about you guys but I watched Jae on the twitch livestream when he said that "you're stupid if you think that JYP is dumb". For me personally I watched him say that and knew that he didn't mean it because I usually joke about things and call my friends stupid if they didn't agree with my opinion, but in my heart I knew that I didn't mean it. I thought that was exactly what I was hearing and didn't think anything of it. I respected his opinion about JYP and I am a fan. I mean I knew that I didn't really like JYP (the person), but I kinda agreed with his statement about a company not being run by only one person. I know that he could have said it in a better way, but I was also surprised to see that next day that he was getting backlash. I don't really know what to think about this other than that I think Jae knows JYP better than us. I know that his words may have hurt fans but I didn't think it was to that extent. When I saw the news of the backlash from his statement I really though 'was this necessary?'. We don't know what goes on behind the company and I think we're only seeing the outercoat of things. That was just my opinion.
