Hi, welcome! So today’s video is something different, I thought we could take a deep dive on reddit, and take a look at r/unpopularkpopopinions and have some fun debates, maybe roast some opinions because that’s always fun. The theme of most of these unpopular opinions tends to revolve around talent or lackthereof.

"Worldwide Handsome" Jin of BTS suffered early on through this kind of attack as being the "least talented member" of BTS. It's true he did not have dancing or singing experience in his youth and he targeted acting as his university major which requires posture and comportment, which could be his nickname of the "old man" eldest member in the group. But look at him now, not only keeping up singing and dancing with the most talented members ever, his personality is outstanding with most generations without sacrificing his authenticity.

Unpopular opinion: If you're being paid to be an idol you should be able to sing. I don't even care if an idol can dance, but the whole point is that they are singers. I don't think it's okay to just say "but they have a great personality!" and call it a day. Having a great personality doesn't mean you should be getting paid millions for it. That's the thing of it for me, there are idols essentially being paid for having an entertaining personality and that's it, not an actual talent.

There's a lot of world class artists that can't sing, take Britney spears for example, I don't like her, but there's no way I'm gonna call her untalented, while I know she has many other qualities that make her a phenomenal performer, I don't vibe with her, that's just preference, only a blind ass fool would call her untalented because her singing ain't all that. Then there are performers whose quality and power vocally declined, but your not going to call them untalented, they might not be able to hit the notes of the past or have to sing it in a different key but so what? People still vibe to, still connect, so what if your kit is a bit less than before, its what you do with what you've got that matters.

@James Henry Smith I haven't listened to many 4th gen groups, so I'm not sure what quality their talent is... No doubt stans of previous gens shit on the ones that come after, eventually 3rd gen will peak and decline letting 4th gen shine on their own merits rather than being in the shadow of those before them, we will watch this cycle continue in the future, so rather than that just enjoy what you like.

I think for the whole idols being artists thing , isn't what kpop is about , these idol groups kind of mainly represent the company's music , except a few self producing ones , like for eg especially during the 2nd gen JYP would always put his name or a little skit in his group's songs like in Wonder girls nobody and miss A good girl bad girl "jyp ...made in Asia ..miss A.." something along these lines So it conveys that these idols represent jyp more than they represent themselves if that makes sense😬😅😅

San's satanic fan cams were what led me to join the ATEEZ fandom in the first place. I too have thought the words tHeIr SoNgS aRe tOo InTeNsE fOr Me, but LOL now here's me loving every single song in their discography and buying their albums and watching their online concert. As a Moomoo first and foremost, I feel like stage presence is either engaging live singing / rapping like MAMAMOO does, or you better be dancing and performing so incredibly it justifies all the lip syncing, and ATEEZ does just that and even more than that, they go 100% even when they're far from the center position, and that's performance ethic I don't see all that often. That said, there are a lot of amazing groups out there with great stage presence, great visuals, and hilarious variety show talent that I also follow closely, but don't exactly 'stan'. In the end, it's really about whether or not you vibe with all of the members' personalities enough to become a solid fan and commit to buying their merchandise.

ateez and txt are so incredible with their facial expressions, performance is literally about facial expressions. and as someone who loves theatre, they give me real performance vibes! during an inception performance, san and seonghwa literally look like they're going to start crying during the whole performance but they're just that into the song. it was so beautiful, and just really well done.
taewae پیش 3 ماه
i've literally NEVER heard someone complain about idols making facial expressions while dancing, that person is so weird. why do they make an open letter, saying "we" like other ppl think that way wtf? like HALF of a good performance is in the face. if a group did their choreo perfectly but all had blank faces, it would look like shit. that being said, if an idol is not expressing the style of the song well or they look disingenuous, then i get that. but a passionate or intense expression is "chaotic"? even tho it fits the vibe of the song perfectly? ok...

No hate and shade, i tried to get into ateez but i can't get into them (watch all their mv, fancam, their interview etc), i just can't vibing with them, but i respect them as idols, I'm a huge fan of gen 2-early gen 3 idols and yeah CL/2ne1, GD/bigbang, 2pm, EXO, Vixx, etc have amazing stage presence wise, and their facial expressions never cringy and extreme or overdone and still amazing on stages, and their talent are in par with their stage presence and their personality (variety show) skills are amazing as well, so for me everyone in the group has to have presence within their group, even if he/she ended up to be the least popular member, their "talent" still backing up their importance to be in the group.

Well you can deny it as much as you want . But it's a fact that MOST 4th gen groups are not good at singing, the main vocalits of these new groups will not be more than lead vocalists in 2nd and even 3rd gen groups. They don't have rappers (rappers are just bad singers) but what we can't deny is that THEY CAN DANCE. Its basically the DANCE generation

can we address how nasty people are to ateez tho? the bandwagon hate they’ve been getting on twitter is insane. people saying they look like they have seizures on stage? which i find interesting bc ateez use a lot krump (a black dance style) in their more intense choreo which is VERY difficult to execute. san is usually the butt of these “jokes” since he’s usually center in those intense parts bc he executes it the best. you guys see a different kind of dance style and suddenly they’re having seizures on stage? how ignorant can you be? ateez are easily one of the best performers of the 4th gen but some of you guys are so used to dead faces and boring performances that it’s hard for y’all to accept that. and people act like ateez only have intense songs/choreo when they’ve done almost all styles in less than 2 years. as an atiny it’s just so frustrating to see all the hate they get cuz it’s so UNPROVOKED. if they were some messy problematic bg i wouldn’t have cared but they’re not. ah idek where i’m going with this, people just need to stop being so mean to atz for no reason.

As long as the members complement each other. An example is BTS, only 3 of the 7 members danced before entering the group. However, since their debut they were one of the groups with the best performances (in addition to stage presence) only two of the 7 wrote and composed songs, nowadays they all do. Over time the members of a group improve, they learn from the virtues of the others and they will start complementing each other. That is why a Rookie group should not be judged so harshly either.

I kind of agree with the last post but not with wording. I think good personality is a skill in itself. Because what we see the idols present as is never 100% their actual personality. It's not fake, every human is like this, wishing to put out the best version of themselves out to the public. And the skill of doing so consistently, and crafting a truly splendid and dazzling version of yourself is something only a few people have. It's a talent, charisma is a talent. So I would say that yeah I also don't mind if my bias is not good at "art" skills like singing, dancing or even acting... as long as they are talented in being charismatic/a person you can fall for. From the biases I have, none of them are either main dancers or main vocals. I can't say they are not good at all at any of these things but I love them most for their personality, for the natural soothing tone of voice and expression rather than actual singing, if it makes sense.

I will say that the phrase "over-dancing" is a real thing or at least from when I watch videos of professional dancers analyzing kpop choreography, I see comments like "so and so has a tendency to over-dance." I am assuming that means is over-exaggerating movements or doing your own thing outside of the original choreo, ideally it should be clean, polished and flow. HOWEVER THAT BEING SAID, I personally love how much Ateez embodies their choreography especially in live performances like you can tell that they love doing what they do and will give EVERYTHING THEY GOT! If some people don't like it, well that's their opinion (though some people voice their opinions really rudely, like what the heck??) but I personally love to see how intense Ateez goes with their stages. Like you said WE NEED THE CHAOS SOMETIMES!!

I think the problem with groups today is probably that the companies do forget to highlight their artists talents. Like I think it's important for them to show both personality and talent. I had no idea Lia from Itzy had the voice she had, until I saw a video of the best 4 gen female artists and there was a bunch of covers that Lia had done and she was absolutely amazing and I was so shocked!!! Also no I don't think it's necessary for all the members to be at the same level and yes personalities does matter. But even though I don't think it's necessary for all members to be at the same level, I do think it's necessary that the companies still are able to bring light/highlight the different members, so they don't suddenly gets "Left behind/forgotten". And they should still try to achieve that each member is present in their music videos, or try to "make-up" for it, in another video, if they weren't able to achieve it in the first one. There's a lot of ways in which a company can show their individual artist, from putting in dance solos, not having to release the most vocal "impressed/difficult" song everytime, letting them have an online presence, like a IRitem channel, shine as models/actors or through variety programs.

I luv ATEEZ facial expressions because it adds to their performances. They envoc emotion, and show each members distinct personalities. I don't understand about their expressions being too much. Most Kpop 4th generation groups give cookie cutter facial expressions which for me makes the performance cold, or too polished, too practiced. Even with dancing sometimes it seems too practiced, too perfect, that I have a hard time differentiating between each member. DONT GET ME WRONG I luv 4th generation Kpop groups regardless. ATEEZ members have charisma and their videos are hilarious! It makes them relatable and genuine because they put themselves out there regardless of whether they look dorky or they are embarrassed. ATEEZ is different from whats out there in Kpop and maybe because they are so different it effects their popularity especially in Korea. They are the underdog in many ways so I really want them too Succeed and be recognized as a power house in Kpop!

some people have never done acting and it shows LMAOO ateez is a prime example of what you’re supposed to be doing on stage. on stage you have to ‘over exaggerate’ your facial expressions and, your movements. this makes your audience feel absorbed into your performance. basically, as an entertainer you’re supposed to do exactly as that. but, ateez and txt are the only groups who do this perfectly. so next time you shit on ateez for being ‘too extra’, do your research on theatre

I've attended (informal) theater workshops before and with my friend who was teaching and was a theater actress told me that as actors on stage portraying a character, we always have to put up the biggest movements, the widest facial expressions and to act or sing or deliver lines in the clearest way with enough loudness, and perform as if there's an old lady on the farthest seat on the theater who can't hear well nor see well. I think Ateez are just theatrical when it comes to performing on stage. At the end of the day, it all comes down to preference, like in my case, I've been a Carat for a long while and honestly i'm so used to SVT's clean precise choreo no matter what sound they take on so when Ateez came in with all that powerful and chaotic energy, i immediately was drawn to it realizing i guess i needed a dose of that type of chaotic vibe or wild stage presence every once in a while.

I disagree that "anyone can have a technically good voice" It's not so easy as just training and then you get it. Also I don't think unique vocals are what that person was talking about. Yes park Bom isn't the most technically good, but she doesn't sound like a teen girl who went to a karaoke room with her friends. You can tell she likes music and can sing. Though I would say that technique is important not just for the sound but also bc bad technique can deteriorate one's voice giving them a shorter career. I agree with that comment mostly because you'll hear some girl who can barely do anything with her voice but can just sing perfectly in tune. It makes it feel less genuine like the music is a side thing. That's one of the reasons a lot of people don't take those artists very easily which is fine, there is a spectrum in kpop between idol and artist, but I get annoyed mostly when these same fans who say talent doesn't matter scream that their bias who can't sing, dance, compose, rap, perform right or anything is still an "artist" and that there is no difference.

Of course idols are talented... that's why we are sitting our non-talented butts watching them through a screen. My point is that "arm chair coaching" is all that any of us are able to do. It's not like we are going to get on stage and show them how it's done. LOL

Well, people forget that THEY ARE ONLY IDOLS. It means they may be not as talented as "talented artist" so don't demande too much from them or overpraise them. I follow Kpop for more than 15 years and I am a fan of a 1st gen group. In those days, the idols only needed to have decent talent, they had a lot of flaws: mediocre vocal technique, mediocre (or funny) rap style, decent and nice dance movement. Of course they can improve and some of them now can be considered as "talented artists" but that's a later history. Kpop nowadays focus too much on the perfection that fans are so obsessed with how "PERFECT" their idols are. Fans often overpraise their idols and make themselves stupid in the eyes on non-fans. They also forget how their idols are only decently talented and how to enjoy seeing them improve and grow up through time. How come they can improve if they're already "too perfect"? That's why these days we rarely see live performance, i mean REAL live performance. In 1st gen and 2nd gen of Kpop, we used to see funnily terrible live performance, A LOT OF crack notes and how we used to joke abt our idols mediocre rap and singing but we still love them. These days? Everything sounds suspiciously PERFECT and people get crazy about a crack note or a lip-sync performance. Come on, they are ONLY IDOLS. Lastly, Idols are not just about singing. Every member has a role. Some of them sing, some of them rap, some of them dance, some of them are visually beautiful, some of them are funny entertainers. Some of them are both this and that. Sometimes I don't see the necessity of some members in some groups but i am an outsider. If i am a fan, maybe i can have an insight view. They exist for a purpose, i think?

I think ATEEZ is incredibly talented but to a new person it probably is a bit overwhelming to see so much power in a performance and it might take a little ehile to get used to that intensity

Personally the Ateez facial expression thing is just not for me, but if other people enjoy why drag them down? They’re obviously talented performers and if it works for them and people like them for it where’s the issue? There’s no need to be so negative when something isn’t your preference lmfao
